Peninsula High School Club Bowling

Who: The PHSL is a mixed bowling league in which both high school boys and girls participate. There are handicap and scratch divisions. The Peninsula High School HS Bowling Club is open to all students, including eighth graders and homeschoolers. This is a club sport and there are not any tryouts; all skill levels are welcome. The Peninsula HS Bowling League Coordinator is Mary C. Pancoast. She can be reached with any questions at 757-930-1346.

What: The Peninsula HS Bowling League is about to begin its’ 26thSeason. It only takes three students to form a handicap team to represent your high school in the league. Scratch bowlers bowl head to head singles matches. You can bowl in tournaments against other high school bowlers in the state. You will enjoy parties and make new friends! Please check out our webpage at for more information about youth bowling.

This year in coordination with the Bowling Centers the cost for the league is the same as last season and includes an optional easier payment plan. The price is only $100.00/season,$95.00 if you are already sanctioned!  Or if you should choose, you can also pay for the league in two payments.  $55.00 will be due on the first day of bowling, and another $55.00 will be due before the eighth session of the league.  Both price plans include USBC membership, shoes and bowling for sixteen sessions from mid-November till around mid-February.  To secure the $100.00 price, the league registration fee must be paid in full before the start of league bowling.

When: Organizational meetings (sign-up and team assignments) with free bowling will be held at AMF York and Sparetimes Bowling Centers on November 12, 2013 at 330 pm.  These two bowling leagues start on November 19, 2013 and finish in Mid-February 2014.  All scratch bowlers will also meet at AMF York on November 12, 2013.  At their meeting, the scratch bowlers will decide if they would like to bowl their whole season at AMF York or travel this year bowling half the season at AMF York and half at Sparetimes.

Why: Bowling will challenge you and it is rewarding.  Trophies will be awarded in several categories to handicap league bowlers.  The scratch league will be an all scholarship league.  At the end of the high school league season, a Peninsula Area HS Bowling Championship tournament will be take place at Sparetimes, the home center of last season’s champions.  It will feature the highest placed teams from each bowling center league competing for the overall area championship.

Coaching:  USBC Certified Silver Coaching lessons will be available at several special Friday afternoon practices at AMF York Lanes for only $5.  Questions?  Contact Coach Rob Johnson at (757)508-3566 or

PHSL will bowl in the Hampton Roads District Championship on December 15,2013.  All scratch bowlers will receive an automatic berth into this event.  The remaining spots will be filled by the top teams from each of the two leagues.  The top Scratch bowlers will form the Peninsula Area All Star Team, and with eight (8) additional teams will advance to the HS State Championships held in Richmond in January where bowlers will compete for over $5000 in college scholarships!
