Juanita Bivens of Hampton was a dominating force in the Virginia Peninsula USBC Women’s Championship Tournament that ended Feb. 19 at the AMF Williamsburg Lanes.

In Division 1, for bowlers with averages of 161 and over, Bivens won just about everything in the scratch division — taking the singles (700), the doubles with Cheryl Fensom (1,263) and the all-events (2,071).

She also finished on top in the handicap singles (735) and all-events (2,176) to go with second in the handicap doubles with Fensom (1,376).

She also shot the high game for the tournament (269) and the high series (707). Add the 664 series she rolled in the team event and that gave her a landslide win in the scratch all-events, a whopping 223 pins ahead of runner-up Karen Shuler of Hampton.

Shuler also teamed with Debbie Heath to take the handicap doubles title (1,321) by five pins over Fensom and Bivens.

The handicap team titles went to 5 Pin Beer Chuggers #2 — composed of Donna Gaddis, Diane Mayer, Leanne Trent and Nikki Michonski — in Division 1 (2,721) and 5 Pin Beer Chuggers #5 — comprised of Christina Conover, Amanda Rhodes, Shannon Lopez and Tina Woods — in Division 2 (2,829).

In Division 2 for women with averages of 160 and under, Laura Favata took the all-events scratch title (1,362) and second in the scratch singles (492) behind Annette Bykowski (568) of Hampton. The scratch doubles went to Nancy Lombard and Bykowski (925) of Hampton.

In the D2 handicap division, other winners included: Rena Souza of Newport News in singles (775); Karoline Adis and Dana Dawson of Newport News in doubles (1,444); and Theda Wells of Smithfield in all-events (2,206).

Juanita Bivens of Hampton, lead the field of bowlers in the Classic Division (161 & Up) with an excellent performance in the All Events Scratch with 2071 pins and when adding her Handicap she also came in 1st place with 2176 pins in All Events Handicap, Classic Division (161 & Up).
